T-shirt diery

A fitting tribute to the man that started it all. On the back of the tee are the words that Duane wrote in his diary on New Year's day 1969:

"This year I will be more thoughtful of my fellow man, exert more effort in each of my endeavors professionally as well as personally. Take love wherever I find it, and offer it to everyone who will take it. In this coming year I will seek knowledge from those wiser than me and try to teach those who wish to learn from me. I love being alive and I will be the best man I possibly can."

Once the photos leaked I knew it would become a shirt, but anyway on Thursday August 20th, 10.Deep will host an event for the release of Donnis’ new mixtape Donnis: Diary of an ATL Brave at The Loft. Above is the tee that will be also available during the release party as well as on the online store. Below is the press release on the info of the event:

When we said that this week was going to be huge for 10.Deep, we weren’t kidding around. With the upcoming release of our Fall 09 lookbook, which drops Wednesday August 19th, and our mixtape project with Donnis, we figured it was about time to check our intellects at the door at least for a few hours with a party that will either make the morning papers or the police blotters.

We are honored to have loaned our influence to the playlists that now populate your radio with mixtape releases from Wale and Kid Cudi, but this week we present to you a new addition to your summer soundtrack. Diary of an Atlanta Brave, the Highly anticipated mixtape from southern spitter Donnis will be hitting the web this Thursday August 20th.

NYC is due for some excitement this week as we will also be marking the occasion of the mixtape release with a celebration in Brooklyn. The “Diary of an Atlanta brave” release party will be a dance floor adventure with the decks manned by the likes of Just Blaze, DJ Benzi and Million Dollar Mano. If that wasn’t enough we offer the opportunity to drown in the Open bar and partake in gift bags that will feature our exclusive 10.Deep x Donnis tee shirt collab.

For those of you who miss the party but want your piece of the action, or just want to pretend that you were there, the tee and mixtape will be available at 10deep.com Thursday August 20th at 12pm EST. Quantities are limited so, click quick.

The mixtape will be available for download and via stream (courtesy of imeem.com) on Thursday August 20th, for now check out this small preview below as Donnis plays tracks for Just Blaze.

T-shirt diery

the South African t-shirt design competition, has a great post on its blog written by their CEO Eric Edelstein, who is chronicling the the ups and downs that they’re facing throughout their formative months. The account is surprisingly candid, it isn’t all positive anecdotes, but it does make me like Springleap a lot more. I love this kind of stuff, this kind of openness from a company really endears me to them, and having this kind of an insight into the way they work is really interesting to me, and I’m sure it’ll be of interest to some of you guys as well.

T-shirt diery

I saw on the Women on Waves site that they have a campaign with a shirt saying, “I had an abortion???. I thought it was a wonderful way to break the taboo and bring the discussion to the table. That inspired me and I made a t-shirt saying, “Eu fiz um aborto. Eu fiz um aborto??? (I had an abortion. I had an abortion). I repeated the sentence because it was difficult to read, right on the curve below the breasts. It's a sleeveless girly t-shirt, in low cream color. The writing is in black and it covers all of the t-shirt. It's quite big and gets a lot of attention.

The only person who knew about it was and old friend of mine, who loved the idea and who was the one to say to me to keep a journal about it, to write down people’s reaction over it. So, thank you.

When I told my father about it, my idea of wearing it and why, he went silent and said in the most quiet voice: “But you didn’t have an abortion??? and I said “So? I didn’t write the Bible either, and I have a t-shirt that says it???. “Yeah, but writing the Bible is impossible. It's very possible to have an abortion???.

I think he was trying to alert me about the hate response I could get. And I had thought about it. I got to confess I was a little frightened about it. To get eggs throw at me or to be slapped or something. In Brazil, abortion is illegal. And the subject gets a very passionate, furious and ignorant response from the debaters from both sides. But then I thought of all the women I was standing up for and that gave me some courage. I know I could avoid this by doing a t-shirt that said “Decriminalize abortion??? or “Legalize abortion??? or something, and not make myself a target. But that was not the point; it was to give all those women without a face a support. As to say, don't worry, it's all right, you’re all right.

T-shirt diery

I have to say that much as I love the summer, I did wonder what I would do to fill this blog without people losing gloves for me to catalogue. Luckily my colleague Dan wore this rather fine T-Shirt today and in doing so reminded me about the T-Shirt Diaries.

In case you missed it, the idea here is that whenever I see someone wearing a particularly fine T-Shirt, I’ll stop them, take a photo & post the photo here. To date my English reserve has meant that the only t-shirts I’ve taken photos of have belonged to friends, colleagues or, even more pathetically, me. The only stranger I managed had his back to me, and was wearing a jacket, not a t-shirt.

Anyway, I was rather taken by Dan’s t-shirt, produced by the boys & girls at Criminal: it seems to depict one of those old globes that used to have messages spinning round them; the type that would be spinning avove The Daily Planet, or more recently were used on the cover of the Doves’ album Some Cities. I can’t be sure exactly what it’s meant to be saying, but it seems to say:

The World Is Yours, But You’ve Got To Fight For It

which is something I think most of us could agree on.

What you also have to fight for is t-shirt supremacy, and Dan & I have agreed to have a t-shirt shoot-out over the next few weeks. Whenever both of us have a day free of client meetings, we will wear a t-shirt, with the best one each day winning a point. How exactly we’ll choose the winner, I’m not sure. But whilst Dan obviously has some strong tees in his arsenal, with the 1st instalment of the 2009 Airside T-Shirt Club about to drop, I’m quietly confident.
